Jan. 26, 2011 (Wed.) Republic Day
 Although India obtained its independence on 15 August 1947, it did not yet have a permanent constitution. On 29 August 1947, the Drafting Committee was appointed to draft a permanent constitution. Unlike in Independence Day, Republic Day just celebrates the constitution.
Mar. 2, 2011 (Wed.) Maha Shivaratri 
"The Night of Shiva". The ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This  is a festival observed in honor of Lord Shiva.
Apr. 12, 2011 (Tues.) Ram Navmi
(A day of celebration the day of his Divine  appearance)
Apr. 14, 2011 (Thurs.) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti
Celebrated because of his lifelong devotion to improving the status of  the low caste Indians.
Apr. 22, 2011 (Fri.) Good Friday
Observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ and His death at Calvary but HE was resurrected by God on the third day, to God be the Glory! Halelujah!
Aug. 15, 2011 (Mon.) Independence Day
is celebrated on 15th of August to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947.

Eid ul-Fitr / Ramzan Id 
is a three-day Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
Sept. 1, 2011 (Thurs.) Shri Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati is widely worshipped as the munificent god of wisdom. This is a festival in his honour and is celebrated in the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Oct. 6, 2011 (Thurs.) Dassera 
also known as Vijayadashmi, is one of the fascinating festivals of India and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm for ten continuous days.

Popularly known as the Festival of Lights, to signify the triumph of good over evil within an individual
Nov. 7, 2011 (Mon.) Bakri-Id
It is known as the Festival of Sacrifice. There is a tradition of sacrificing a goat on this day. Goat is called ‘Bakr’ in Urdu and ‘id’ is derived from the word ‘iwd’ which means ‘Festival’ in Arabic language.
Nov. 10, 2011 (Thurs.) Gurunanak Jayanti / Bakreeth
(Birthday of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, and one of the most sacred festivals  in Sikhism)
Dec 6, 2011 (Tues.) 
Moharum /  Muharram
(Moharum or Muharram or is  the first month of the Islamic calendar. Some Muslims fast  during daylight  hours on the ninth and 10th or 10th and 11th days of  the month. Some Muslims regard Muharram  as the month of mourning,  commemorating the Battle of Karbala. )
